Happy Thanksgiving to my American Friends!

I hope you are all having a great time eating turkey and dressing with family. I, on the other hand, am STILL working on that paper I mentioned 60 gazillion blogs ago. But just to make myself, and you, happy, here is a picture of the parents last Halloween. It's sort of Thanksgivingy.

Children of the 80's

So, this is how new I am to the underground blog community....(I didn't know so many Tech people had blogs, I have SO enjoyed logging on to one and finding others!) I didn't even know that "contributors" actually meant that Jessica could contribute! It made me so happy when I logged on to the blog this morning and saw Jessica's Ode to my new ride! We do think alike don't we Jess, it's sort of scary... anyway. After the ode I feel the need to share a bit about the car, and then on with the "Children of the 80's"

We drove a Volvo. Yes, it was my fault. When we were looking for a car I told John "I've always wanted a Volvo, we have to get the Volvo!!!!" I have no idea why, and I have regretted it every day since. So, it was finally on it's last leg, not even worth fixing. We were going to put more into it than we could even sell it for, so it was time to give it up. The problem with that was that we don't know where we are going to be in six months, or what situation we will be in, so we couldn't buy a car and pay a note. We asked a church back home to spread the word that we needed a reliable car for a few months, even just to borrow, and nothing came of it. We were starting to get a bit discouraged and were about to put the Volvo in the shop when our friend Jesse called. Jesse was the former pastor of our church and he is a mechanic, although he called for something completely off the "car" subject. John mentioned to him about keeping his eye out for a car for us, and he said "I have one right now". This man bought it for his son, gave it to Jesse for fixing up, and then bought his son a different car. So, the man could care less about getting the car back and told Jesse that he would give it to us, no money to him, just a small amount that he would donate to "Outreach Canada" which is a really cool organization! So, Jack (that's his name, we love Jack) pretty much gave us the car. We found out about it on Saturday and had a new (to us) car on Monday. God is so cool. Plus, it's really neat that I don't feel like it's our car, I feel like we're driving God's car. Especially since it's an "oldies" car as John puts it, and you know we still all have that "Old man with the white beard sitting on a thrown" image in the back of our heads somewhere! So, there is the story of the LeSabre. We love it, it's like driving on a HUGE cloud.

So, to the 80's. Sarah (aforementioned) emailed this to me, it made me happy.

ode to the lesabre

this is so not fair! i logged on to write my "ode to the lesabre" and amy had already written an "ode to sarah." amy and i have always been about the odes. scary, isn't it?

i'll miss sarah. sad to know that she will depart before i get back up there to sleep in her bed. she helps me make jell-o, and i am forever grateful. she makes fun of my southern accent, so every now and then, i just call and leave my phone number on the answering machine with my super southern voice just for her. now, whatever shall i do?

back to the original intent of posting...

"ode to the 92 lesabre"
the schaffners finally got a new ride,
this one in particular is extra wide.
there's plenty of room for baby sadie,
even for the two gross dogs from hades.
who would've thought that it would be
a buick instead of a new mercedes?
now there's a car that matches booger,
wow, a lesabre can be quite the looker.
i can see amy driving it now,
she might can use it as a snow plow.
landrum used to make fun of my bonneville,
but teasing the lesabre would give him a thrill.
it's a car and it works, and for that she is glad,
how cool, a lesabre for the new mom and dad.

i need closure. bye.

Ode To Sarah

This is Sarah, she's our oldest friend in Canada. John has known her since she was in SIXTH GRADE! Anyway, we forced her to move here and live with us in Calgary. She just got back from Nebraska where she visited her man..... Ryan.

They went to the zoo where a bird used her as a toilet. Yeah, that's what the picture is about.....

Anyway, this is my Ode to Sarah

Sarah Sarah, you're so cool
you hold the baby
while I poo
you laugh at our jokes
and talk randomly with me
non-stop
you live in our home
and you're still sane
sort-of
Sometimes I think you remind
me of grilled cheese
crispy on the outside
and soft and gooey inside
wait, that doesn't sound appealing
maybe you remind me of
mashed potatoes
really good and creamy
lots of buttery goodness
that's it
Sarah is buttery goodness personified
We will be sad when you go
Who will hold the baby
while I go?
(wait, I already said that once didn't I?)
Okay, that's it.

Le Sabre

Today God blessed us with a car. We are now the proud owners of a white 92 Buick Le Sabre! We are the envy of every 70 year old around!

Honestly, we have been praying for a car that was reliable for some time, and this was a huge blessing!

Saturdays with Sadie

So, yesterday I saw an old man strolling backwards. It made me think how much I can't wait until I'm old and don't care if people think I'm weird walking backwards. Old people are so wonderful, I love when they wear their "driving" hats and gloves.

This morning John and I woke up around 9:30 (blessed Saturday!) to Sadie laughing and making noises and squealing in between us (she ended up in our bed around 5:30). We fell back asleep and woke up again around 10 and she was still going at it. What a good kid. She's such a morning person! Although, I'm sure our friend Eric who stays over on Saturdays doesn't think it's that funny, I think he wanted to sleep late! Well, too bad, when my kid is happy I let her be happy!!!Right now she has discovered that when she drops her spoon (her favorite toy) she has fun looking down at it. How cool to be a baby and discover those things.

So, today we are getting rid of our TV. That's right, we are going to be "those" people. Those people who have a living room without a TV! There are the obvious "holier than thou" reasons, like there is nothing but crap on TV now. But mostly it's because we have WAY too much to do, and the TV is our distraction. Instead of studying or writing our papers, we will watch "just one show" that ends up three hours later we've watch too much TV and gorged ourselves on every snackable food in the house. This is, of course, if we can find someone to help John move it because it is a monstrous thing that takes up way too much space. That's another reason I want to get rid of it, my whole living room centers around the TV! Although, I will have to figure something else to do while I'm ironing...

You know what I love about blogs? I can have terrible English, terrible grammar, terrible sentence structure and no one cares! Except maybe Jessica, Ms. English major is probably correcting me in her head!

Anyway, John and I both have TONS to do, like that paper I've been talking about, but we've both decided that today "we quit". Sometimes we would really like to quit, but really we can only do it for a few hours. So today we might go on a picnic, we might go to the strange November Santa Clause parade downtown, we might go shopping for a high chair, we might pawn the TV, we might sit around in our pj's staring at the wall, WHO CARES! I think I'll do a few "projects" I've been putting off, go to the library and read magazines, and sit around with the babe. Yeah, that sounds good.

Just a few more days until my sis-in-law has liitle Jude! Can't wait Jen and Joe!

Happy Blogging.

Inspired

Well, my friends have inspired me. I have been part of the blog community in the past, but I let it go when the pregnancy and baby took over my life. Now I'm thinking this might be my only hope of sort-of adult conversation! So this is my first blog with a baby on my lap.

So, I have a 30 page paper to write. Why am I blogging instead you ask? Because I can blog one handed controlling Sadie's recent urge to bend herself backward. I cannot write a 30 page exegesis of Proverbs 1:20-33 like that. So there, it's NOT procrastination!

What a great way to catch up with people, find out who they are today instead of 6-7 years ago when we were together 24-7. I'm sure there are many things about me that are different today. I live in a different country, I am married with a child, I have dogs, I am a total homebody, and have a coffee addiction. Although, I think the "homebody" and "coffee addiction" part was always there.

So, I'm going to use this space to publish any thoughts I want. I know that's the point of a blog, but it's fun to say out loud. I mean, where else can I tell you the antics of my satan-dog Biscuit, talk about how baby poo smells like yeast bread and give the latest home cleaning tip I've learned?

Today I really have no important breakthrough to share, just waiting until she falls asleep so I can write a paper, due tomorrow by the way. Well, not all 30 pages, just the first few sections, of which I have one done. I took this class on purpose TO write the paper, I wanted to learn how to do an exegesis so that I can do it on my own in the future, now I'm wondering about my timing. But if I'm ever going to start my life-long journey through Proverbs 31 and other passages about being a woman who loves God, and eventually write my book about those findings, I had to start sometime! Right?

Okay, so she fell asleep. On my lap, but I can type over her. I have to go and take advantage of the 30 minutes. Possibly my next blog will have more interesting subject matter. But hey, who cares? It's MY blog!!!!!
