VBS Syndrome

It's 12:30.  I've just driven my children home from a long and fun-filled day at Vacation Bible School.  I've spent the day teaching Missions to 4 groups of amazing little second graders.  It's lunch time and I'm starving.

It's 1:30.  I am lying in bed, staring at the wall.  All I feel like I need for the rest of the day is to stare at that wall and listen to the white noise of the fan next to me.  My children ask me questions but I don't hear them, all I hear is the white noise and all my mind can think of is that wall.....

It's 3:30.  Maybe I'll get up now.....maybe I'm ready to re-enter my own world.  Maybe....

A question to all you public schoolers out there - HOW IN THE WORLD DO YOU DO THIS EVERY DAY?????  We would not survive public school.  Only three days of everyone getting up, getting ready and having to be somewhere has almost killed us.  And you guys have to do it EVEN EARLIER.  Blessings on you, you are heroes.

  1. I know you're talking more along the lines of people who TAKE their kids to public school, but as one who TAUGHT public school, I've gotta tell you...VBS was much harder on me than a week of teaching school. I never understood why, but I was SO exhausted at the end of each morning, yet while teaching my own class in school, I could go until 3 pm and still not collapse.

I don't know if it's the need to be perky and sing songs first thing in the morning or what. I do think the first few weeks of school, until you get a rhythm down, are exhausting--so maybe that's it. VBS is akin to the first week of school where everyone is there and excited but no one knows the system yet.

    Either way...I feel you.

  2. VBS is much HARDER!!! You are going full speed for those 3 or 4 hours and come home exhausted. It's fun, but boy are you glad when it's over :)
