Less is More - Guest Post by Angela Mackey

We have a real treat for you today! Angela Mackey is one of those RARE friends who exists in the blogosphere as well as in my real world and has come to visit our little community!  She writes at Rethinking My Thinking and is here to share a little with us about new chapters in life.  Grab a cup of coffee (and Angela makes good coffee) and dig in with me...

"He must increase, but I must decrease." John 3:30  NASB

"He must become greater; I must become less." John 3:30 NIV

Less. No one that I know of aims for less in life.

We all want more. Sometimes we want more for our kids. Other times we want more prestige, more recognition, more time.

Sometimes we even want more of God, more ministry, more opportunities to share God's message.

But do we ever want more so we can be less?

Sure I want more God so I can overcome sin, but I don't want to let go of my dreams in the process.

Yes I long for my ministry to flourish and thousands of people to come to know God through the messages He gives me, but am I willing to trust God regardless of how this ministry grows or doesn't?

Perhaps instead of more I need to focus on less. Less of me and more of God.

Less demanding my way, more trusting God's way.

Less focusing on what I want, more seeking God's will.

Less sure of myself, more sure of God.

Less of my dreams, more of God's direction.

The amazing truth is when I give myself to God, He fills me with more power, wisdom, and direction than I have alone.

Less is really more when the more is all for God's glory.

Perhaps it's time for a new chapter in my life. My less is more chapter less of me and more of God. Are you with me?

"Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen." Ephesians 3:20-21

  1. Earlier this week, I was pondering less vs. more and what that looks like (or, should look like) in my life. Thanks for these thoughts, Angela. They're definitely timely for me.
